ABOUT First Niagara Bank
First Niagara Bank was a regional banking corporation headquartered in Buffalo, New York. It was the 44th largest bank in the United States, with assets over $37.1 billion as of June 30, 2013. In 2008, the company was sold to the National Association of Banks and was renamed to the First Niagara Financial Group. This merger created a new bank called the One-Main Financial Group. Its name was changed to the current First Niagara.
The new bank will be located less than a mile from previous First Niagara locations. Branches will remain open for business as normal, but the combined bank will have more than 1,200 branches and 1,500 ATMs in 15 states. The newly rebranded KeyBank branch network will have 488 branches and 184 New York-based locations. The merger is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs, as the combined company has more than doubled its headcount in recent years.
